An 18-year-old man was shot and killed late Tuesday evening in the Bellefontaine neighborhood of Toulouse. It marks the second fatal shooting in the metropolitan area within ten days, according to the Toulouse public prosecutor’s office. Two suspects on a scooter fled the scene following the gunfire, prompting an ongoing investigation by local authorities into organized gang murder.

Responding officers discovered the victim lifeless on the ground with severe wounds caused by firearm discharges. Paramedics and police attempted life-saving measures while a video of the aftermath circulated on social media networks.
Thirty-Seven Casings Recovered at the Scene
Investigators from the Toulouse specialized and organized crime division (DCOS) recovered 37 cartridge casings of two different calibers—7.62 mm and 9 mm—at the crime scene, according to local newspaper La Dépêche. Prosecutors stated that the victim was already known to the judicial system for offenses related to narcotics trafficking committed during his minority.
Preliminary reports suggest a lookout spotted two armed individuals approaching and shouted a warning before the assailants opened fire with a military-grade weapon, prompting return fire from a 9 mm firearm.
Escalating Violence Across Toulouse Neighborhoods
This homicide follows a series of violent incidents in the neighborhood over recent weeks. On September 8, shots were fired in Bellefontaine without causing injuries, leading to one arrest. Another shooting occurred on September 12 behind a building near the Albert-Camus passageway, where officers recovered roughly fifteen 7.62 mm casings.
Earlier in the month, a 23-year-old man was killed overnight from September 5 to September 6 outside the Sylvain-Dauriac nursery school in the La Faourette district.
Tracking the Rising Toll of Turf War Homicides
If investigators officially link Tuesday’s shooting to the drug trade, it will represent the fourth deadly turf war homicide recorded in Toulouse since the beginning of the year, according to France 3.
The national anti-narcotics office (OFAST) released a report on June 30 documenting 16 score-settling incidents, including homicides and attempts, across the Toulouse metropolitan area alone.
