The timing disrupted immediate club plans; according to the Press Association, United had prepared to name the teenager in their matchday squad for a Carabao Cup fixture against Brighton. That appearance would have marked his competitive debut for the senior team and made him the youngest player in the club’s history. Following his exit request, those selection plans were immediately scrapped.
Manchester United officials have sought to persuade the player to remain at Old Trafford. However, because his registration runs until the summer and the club refuses to deregister him, Gabriel cannot join another Premier League club.
