Three Cowboys Players Fined Over $33K After Loss to Giants

Three Dallas Cowboys players received fines totaling $33,409 from the National Football League following their season-opening loss to the New York Giants, according to the league’s accountability report. Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, defensive end Donovan Ezeiruaku, and running back Javonte Williams were penalized for infractions committed during the game.

DeMarvion Overshown Fined for Late Hit

Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown incurred a $9,527 penalty for a late hit on Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart. According to the NFL accountability report, the infraction occurred with just under ten minutes remaining in the first quarter of the matchup. The unnecessary roughness penalty advanced New York 15 yards downfield, setting up a drive that eventually resulted in a Giants touchdown.

Donovan Ezeiruaku Penalized for Facemask

Defensive end Donovan Ezeiruaku received an $11,941 fine for grabbing the facemask of an opposing player. According to game data, the penalty took place with only 2:10 remaining in the fourth quarter. The crucial infraction allowed the Giants to run down the remaining game clock and secure a 28-20 victory at MetLife Stadium.

Javonte Williams Addresses Taunting Fine

Running back Javonte Williams was fined $11,941 for taunting Giants safety Tyler Nubin after scoring a touchdown in the fourth quarter. According to coverage of the game, Williams held the ball toward Nubin following his score, triggering a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that was enforced during the extra-point attempt. The penalty pushed the subsequent kick back, leading kicker Brandon Aubrey to miss a 48-yard attempt and leaving Dallas trailing by eight points.

Discipline Struggles in the Opener

According to game statistics, the Cowboys were penalized nine times over the course of the contest, while the Giants were flagged 11 times, bringing the combined total to 20 penalties for the matchup.
