Victor Thomas Gonzalez, a 34-year-old Texas man, was shot and killed after chasing the suspects who robbed him during a Facebook Marketplace transaction in north Harris County, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities subsequently arrested 17-year-old Anthony Castro, booking him into the Harris County Jail on a capital murder charge. Investigators have not publicly detailed Castro’s exact role in the shooting or confirmed whether he fired the fatal shot.

The sequence of events began when Gonzalez arranged an in-person meeting over Facebook Marketplace to sell property. Following the robbery, Gonzalez dialed 911 and pursued the suspects through north Harris County.
While following the fleeing car, Gonzalez provided 911 dispatchers with the vehicle’s description and direction of travel. According to investigators, dispatchers explicitly warned Gonzalez to stop chasing the suspects due to the inherent danger. During the pursuit, Gonzalez called dispatchers back to report that he had been shot. Deputies responding to the area near John Albers and Bauman roads found Gonzalez, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
