Dublin cocktail bar Bar 1661 has secured a spot among the top 100 bars in the world, while also earning a nomination for Best Cocktail Menu at the Spirited Awards, according to reporting by the Irish Independent and RTÉ.
Located on Green Street and opened in 2019 by owner and operator Dave Mulligan, the establishment takes its name from the year poitín was banned in Ireland, as reported by RTÉ. The venue’s drink offerings center heavily on the traditional Irish spirit and local producers. According to RTÉ, the bar was named the 98th best bar globally.
We Call This Power Menu Earns Global Recognition
According to RTÉ, Bar 1661 secured a place on the shortlist of the top 10 cocktail menus in the world for the second year. The nomination recognizes their 28-drink menu titled “We Call This Power,” which celebrates Irish poitín, native drinks, and local producers. The venue shares the Spirited Awards shortlist with international establishments including ARGO at the Four Seasons in Hong Kong, Danico in Paris, and Sip & Guzzle in New York City, as noted by RTÉ.
The immersive experience runs for three hours and features mini serves of all 28 drinks, while the distilled experience offers a 90-minute, 14-drink early-evening tasting bookended by the venue’s Belfast Coffee and Irish Coffee. The current menu will retire in the autumn to make way for a new beverage list, according to RTÉ.

Now in its 20th year, the Spirited Awards highlight exceptional creations, establishments, products, media, and leaders across the global bar industry, according to RTÉ.
In a statement posted to Instagram and cited by RTÉ, the Bar 1661 team said, “To be named among this calibre of bars, from Paris to Bangkok to Barcelona to New York, is something we don’t take lightly.”
