Heavy rains that began Tuesday night and continued into Wednesday morning triggered the partial collapse of the canopy over the arrivals and baggage claim area.

Canopy Failure and Terminal Disruption
Photographs shared by FitFam show sections of the building’s exterior cladding hanging loose and completely detached from the entrance structure. The failure at the arrivals zone followed earlier weather disruptions inside the passenger terminal. Airport staff temporarily closed multiple areas during the morning hours because of water leaks, placing “wet floor” warning signs throughout the concourses.
Flight Schedules Maintained Amid Leaks
An El Paso International Airport spokesperson confirmed that while the heavy precipitation caused indoor leaks, flight operations maintained their regular schedules. “The El Paso International Airport experienced some leaks due to the rains,” the spokesperson stated, adding that maintenance crews responded immediately to clear and clean the affected zones while keeping the terminal open and operational.
Emergency Response Clears the Scene
Crews from the El Paso Fire Department (EPFD) responded to the facility after an initial call categorized the incident as a “technical rescue.” A fire department spokesperson confirmed that no injuries occurred during the structural failure. Once emergency responders secured the site, command of the situation was transferred back to the airport administration.
