Jefferson City Police Investigate Dollar General Counterfeit Cases
Caitlyn M. McAlister faces two felony counts of forgery across separate court cases following a string of incidents at area Dollar General stores in August 2026. On August 24 at 3:20 p.m., a Jefferson City Police officer responded to the Dollar General on Schotthill Road after store employees reported suspicious currency transactions, police records state.
The cashier examined the cash, noted it felt unusual, and observed that security measures used to protect money were missing. The employee initially turned McAlister away.
Multiple Attempts and Bank Discovery Uncover Fake Bills
Later that same evening, the employee reported that McAlister returned to the Schotthill Road location and attempted to deposit the counterfeit cash onto her debit card a second time.
Investigators later connected McAlister to a separate incident at the Dollar General on Route CC. Bank representatives notified officers that they discovered $550 in counterfeit money within a deposit from that location. Employees at the Route CC store identified McAlister as the individual who deposited $550 onto her debit card on August 21.
Police arrested McAlister on August 25. During questioning, court documents state that McAlister admitted she also attempted to use fake currency at a Dollar General store on Madison Street between her two attempts on August 22, but staff at that location denied the transaction.
Legal Proceedings and Jail Custody
McAlister was subsequently charged with two felony counts of forgery in connection with the fraudulent currency incidents. Court records indicate she was held in the Cole County Jail following her arrest.
