Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos Reunite for ‘Jessica Jones: Alias

Writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos are reuniting for a new five-issue Marvel Comics series titled Jessica Jones: Alias, slated to launch on December 23, 2026. Marvel announced the project, which arrives just ahead of the 25th anniversary of the character’s creation in the original 2001 Alias series published under the adults-only MAX imprint.

Plot Details and the 25th Anniversary Milestone

The upcoming limited series finds private investigator Jessica Jones attempting to return to normal investigative work following her stint as First Lady of New York. The narrative kicks off when Jessica is tasked with locating a missing superpowered child whom she suspects is a mutant. According to details shared with Entertainment Weekly, the search pulls her out of Hell’s Kitchen and into global and bizarre locations, including Latveria and the Savage Land. Brian Michael Bendis explained to the publication that the milestone offers a distinct narrative opportunity.

“Jessica’s responsibility to herself and to her cases and the kind of case that only Jessica can do has evolved as she has evolved. So an anniversary is a great opportunity to create a case that allows Jessica to re-explore the Marvel universe,” Bendis told Entertainment Weekly.

Bendis also noted that the investigation forces Jessica to confront how the high-stakes case parallels her complicated family dynamic with her husband, Luke Cage, and their children. With the help of friends, she takes on the assignment, which immediately destabilizes her life.

Creative Team Reunions and Cover Art

The creative lineage of the character remains intact for this anniversary run. Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos originally collaborated on the foundational 2001–2004 Alias run, later reuniting for The Pulse (2004–2006), a 2015 Netflix tie-in one-shot, and an ongoing Jessica Jones series from 2016 to 2018. David Mack, who provided iconic painted covers for the original 2001 run, returns to produce the main covers for Jessica Jones: Alias #1.

Beyond the main cover by Mack, variant covers for the debut issue will feature contributions from artists Corin Howell, Ito, and Miguel Mercado. The comic follows other anniversary efforts for the character earlier in the year, including the miniseries Alias: Red Band by Sam Humphries and Geraldo Borges.

Bendis’s Return to Marvel

This five-issue project marks a significant continued presence for Bendis at Marvel Comics following his return to the publisher last year with a backup story in Avengers #800. He has since contributed to Spider-Man and Superman stories for crossover events and worked on Amazing Spider-Man #1000. Reflecting on the character’s enduring legacy, Bendis shared his perspective on the readership.

“Jessica has, since her debut, been something very different in my life,” Bendis said to Entertainment Weekly. “There’s something very emotional and intimate about the way [people] talk about her. It’s always been the best kind of conversation you could ever hope to have with readers. People see themselves in her and love her and root for her. All of that is in this series.”

Looking past the December launch of Jessica Jones: Alias, Bendis confirmed he is developing additional projects for Marvel, noting that one forthcoming project already has five issues drawn.
