The family office of Doug and Maria DeVos is planning to build a private golf club in Ada Township, Michigan. Continuum Ventures, the investment firm for the DeVos family, is developing the project with a specific focus on design and local membership rather than traditional country club amenities.
Continuum Ventures Plans Golf-Focused Development
Continuum Ventures announced that the new project will depart from standard multi-sport facilities. According to a statement provided by Continuum, the club will exclude amenities like swimming pools, pickleball courts, tennis courts, and fitness facilities. Instead, the layout centers strictly on the game itself.
“While plans remain in the very early stages, West Michigan has a great golf community, and we’re excited to make another long-term investment here,” Continuum stated regarding the early-stage proposal.
Founded in 2020, Continuum manages long-term projects spanning business investments, community development, marine businesses, sailing, and venture capital funds. The firm’s existing golf portfolio includes High Pointe Golf Club located east of Traverse City and Broomsedge Golf Club in South Carolina.
Design Team and Regional Golf Market
Brian Schneider of Traverse City-based Renaissance Golf Design serves as the project architect. Andrej Buchko of Tennessee-based SFT Golf Design is assisting as the lead design associate.
Renaissance Golf Design’s portfolio features notable courses such as Cherry Hills Country Club in Colorado, Tara Iti Golf Club in New Zealand, and courses at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon, according to the firm’s official website.
Michigan’s broader golf market encompasses 859 golf courses across 709 facilities as of early 2024, according to a National Golf Foundation report. Total course counts exceed facility totals because select sites operate multiple nine-hole or 18-hole layouts. Of the 709 total facilities, 604 operate as public access, while 105 are private. The National Golf Foundation report ranks Michigan fourth nationwide in total golf facilities.
