Regional authorities in Basilicata are advancing a 20,5 million euro infrastructure project to connect the Acerenza and Genzano di Lucania water reservoirs, bringing long-awaited irrigation to the Alto Bradano agricultural district. The initiative centers on a public meeting scheduled for 18:00 on September 28 at the municipal auditorium in Genzano di Lucania, titled “Acqua è futuro,” where officials will detail the ongoing rollout of the district G works.
Infrastructure Investment and Water Network Progress
The regional government is moving forward with technical operations to activate the first 6,5 kilometers of the Acerenza-Genzano addductor, a milestone reached on September 15 with oversight from Vera Corbelli, secretary general of the District Hydrographic Authority of the Southern Apennines. According to Pasquale Pepe, vice president and regional infrastructure assessor for Basilicata, the broader effort connects water basins across the territory after decades of waiting.
Following a contract signing at the end of July for an estimated 50 million euro investment dedicated to district G equipment works, the remaining portion of the 15-kilometer connection—comprising aerial pipes, underground conduits, and a tunnel—will enter service progressively by the end of the year. Pepe notes that the upgraded network is designed to channel water resources directly into the Alto Bradano irrigation district to support local farming businesses and secure regional economic growth.
Public Meeting Schedule and Institutional Participants
The September 28 assembly in Genzano di Lucania brings together local leaders, agricultural representatives, and project contractors to outline the operational timeline for the area’s water network. Viviana Cervellino, mayor of Genzano di Lucania, will deliver the opening institutional greetings to kick off the discussions.
Additional speakers at the event include Maria Baccellieri, president of the Agrotecnici and Agrotecnici laureati della Basilicata, and Giuseppe Musacchio, president of the Basilicata Reclamation Consortium. Andrea Vittadello, representing the executing enterprise, will also address the audience before closing remarks from Vice President Pepe.
