Authorities issued “Be Ready” evacuation warnings for areas south and east of Washoe Lake as the blaze advanced. New Washoe City remained outside the designated warning zone. By late afternoon, Incident Command confirmed via Watch Duty that forward progress had stopped, allowing officials to lift the evacuation warnings across the affected valley communities.
Red Flag Warning and Regional Weather Conditions
The fire ignited amid critical fire weather conditions, with a Red Flag Warning active for Washoe Valley through 10 p.m. Friday. The National Weather Service forecast recorded daytime temperatures near 71 degrees with southwest winds averaging 30 mph and gusts reaching up to 50 mph. Winds were projected to ease slightly overnight to 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph before diminishing after midnight.
Expanded Regional Alerts
The National Weather Service extended the Red Flag Warning beyond Washoe Valley to multiple jurisdictions across western and central Nevada, as well as portions of eastern California. Affected regions in Nevada include Southern Washoe County, western and southern Lyon County, western Mineral County, Carson City, Douglas County, Storey County, Churchill County, and the West Humboldt Basin in Pershing County. In California, the warnings covered far southern Lassen County, northern Mono County, and Alpine County.
