Bulgaria faces its first significant cold snap of the season, bringing dropping temperatures, gusty winds, and the transition from rain to snow at high altitudes. According to weather forecasts outlined by meteorologists, Saturday’s conditions mark a sharp shift toward late-autumn weather across the country.
Southwestern and Eastern Regions Experience Early Rain
Precipitation begins early Saturday morning in the southwestern parts of Bulgaria before expanding across much of the southern and eastern regions during the day. Winds blow moderately from the north-northeast, with temporary strong gusts hitting the extreme eastern parts of the country. Minimum temperatures range widely from 7°C to 12°C, peaking up to 16°C along the Black Sea coast. In Sofia, morning thermometers register around 8°C.
Daytime Temperatures and Black Sea Coastal Conditions
Maximum daytime temperatures across the country reach between 17°C and 22°C, while the capital Sofia stays cooler near 17°C. Along the Black Sea, skies remain cloudy with intermittent rainfall accompanied by a moderate to strong north-northeasterly wind. Air temperatures along the coast reach up to 23°C, matching the current temperature of the sea water. Marine conditions grow rougher as wave heights reach 3 to 4 points.
Mountain Weather and High-Altitude Snowfall
Mountainous areas experience predominantly cloudy conditions, with thick fog shrouding the highest peaks. Rain falls primarily in the massifs across the eastern half of the country, while elevations above 2,000 meters see rain transition into snow. A moderate to strong east-northeasterly wind sweeps through the peaks, driving temperatures down. Maximum temperatures at the 1,200-meter level hover around 12°C, dropping sharply to just 4°C at the 2,000-meter mark.
