Before dialing, Gemini presents a task summary displaying the target phone number and shared user details like names and contact information.

Managing Live Audio Streams and Transcripts
Calls route from the user’s phone number through their mobile carrier, incurring standard voice charges. Gemini identifies itself at the outset of the conversation as a Google AI assistant calling on the user’s behalf and recording the interaction. The assistant handles automated phone menus, waits through queue hold times, and lets users monitor progress via a live transcript or audio stream while their microphone remains muted by default. Users can tap a “Take over” button at any point to jump into the conversation, causing Gemini to disconnect after a brief announcement. Once the call concludes, a notification delivers a summary of the outcome, while the Google Phone app history retains full transcripts and audio recordings.
Safety Measures and Business Opt-Outs
Google has implemented several safety measures to restrict how the tool operates. Gemini cannot call emergency services, make purchases, or dictate credit card numbers, passwords, health data, or telemarketing pitches. Daily call limits are enforced, though Google has not disclosed exact caps. To respect business staff, the company added an option for receptionists and shop owners to opt out of AI-generated calls through a dedicated webpage.
Hardware Requirements and US Restrictions
The feature is rolling out as an early trial version for Pixel 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro XL, and 11 Pro Fold devices. Using Call for Me requires an active Google AI subscription, participation in the Google Phone app public beta, an English-language system setting, and users must be at least 18 years old. Crucially, the feature requires a US SIM card and currently places calls exclusively to US-based phone numbers.
