The Emory University women’s tennis team advanced seven players to the singles quarterfinals and pushed all four doubles teams into the main quarterfinals during the opening day of the ITA South Regional, hosted by Sewanee at the Farm & Forge Tennis Club in College Grove, Tennessee, according to tournament results. All nine participating Emory singles players reached the Round of 16.
Seven of the final eight spots in the singles bracket belong to Emory competitors, with each advancing player winning both of their opening matches in straight sets. Sophomore Visnja Gusavac, seeded first in the draw, opened with victories of 6-0, 6-2, and 6-3, 6-0. Senior Yanire Marte, the No. 2 seed, dropped only five total games across her opening matches, winning 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-4.
Additional singles players advancing for the Eagles include Daniela Livson with 6-3, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-3 triumphs, and Rachel Hernandez following 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5), and 6-2 wins. Holyn Karp secured her quarterfinal spot with 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-1 verdicts, while Sara Nenkov advanced with 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1, 7-6 (5) victories. Audrey Pogue advanced past teammate Devin Gilroy in the second round with a 6-4, 6-3 decision.
In doubles competition, all four Emory pairings advanced to the quarterfinals. The tandem of Sara Nenkov and Rachel Hernandez did not drop a single point across two matches. Yanire Marte and Devin Gilroy went a combined 16-1 to secure their spot. Visnja Gusavac and Holyn Karp earned an 8-1 victory in the Round of 16 after receiving a first-round bye, while Jessy Chen and Audrey Pogue advanced with wins against opponents from Rhodes College and Methodist University.
The ITA South Regional tournament continues in College Grove.
