FC Halifax Town has signed midfielder Tommy McDermott for the remainder of the season following his release from Burnley. During his first year at Port Vale, he earned the club’s youth player of the year award and signed his first professional contract in the summer of 2022. At age 17, he made his English Football League debut against Fleetwood Town. In January 2023, McDermott joined Salisbury on loan in the Southern League Premier Division South for the remainder of the season.
## Rochdale, Curzon Ashton, and Burnley Move
At the start of the 2023–24 season, Rochdale signed McDermott on a loan deal. He made four appearances for the club before being recalled in November 2023. Following his recall, he joined Curzon Ashton in the National League North on loan. Burnley secured the midfielder’s signature in February 2024 for an undisclosed fee, placing him into the club’s under-21 squad.
## Shrewsbury Town Loan and Release
During the last campaign, McDermott joined Shrewsbury Town on loan in League Two. He made 41 appearances across all competitions and scored three goals as Shrewsbury finished the season in 19th place. At the conclusion of the season, Burnley released McDermott alongside eight other players from the under-21 squad, clearing the path for his permanent move to FC Halifax Town.
