Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov addressed the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, accusing Western nations of using brute force and endangering global security. Speaking during the general debate, Lavrov claimed that a Western minority is attempting to preserve five centuries of dominance built on foreign resources by imposing its own rules on the international community.
Accusations of Imperial Privilege at the United Nations
“The Western minority, which dominated for five centuries at the expense of foreign resources, does not stop trying to preserve its privileges and impose its rules on everyone,” Lavrov said, according to the official transcript reported by TASS. He asserted that Western actions are unpredictable and adventurous, putting the lives and well-being of billions of people at risk.
Uncompromising Stance on Ukraine’s Military Campaign
Lavrov reiterated Moscow’s official stance on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, stating that Russia’s military campaign will continue until its security threats are fully eliminated. He invoked a prior statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin, declaring that the “dictatorship of a single hegemon has collapsed and is simply dangerous for those around it.”
Dismantling Security Threats and Criticizing UN Leadership
According to the Russian foreign minister, all security threats emanating from Kyiv will be dismantled through the special military operation, regardless of external circumstances. He criticized the leadership of the United Nations for failing to adopt what he described as the correct position regarding the defense of the UN Charter in its entirety, particularly concerning Ukraine.
Accusing European Powers of Sabotaging Peace Talks
Lavrov also alleged that European nations are actively working to sabotage potential peace negotiations for Ukraine. He claimed that despite recognizing the futility of certain military efforts, European governments are obstructing settlement paths that other international actors, including the administration of Trump, might find of interest.
Western Arms Supplies and the Strategic Deadlock
“Realizing the futility of their efforts, Europe does everything possible to prevent a peaceful settlement and thwart the prospects for negotiations,” Lavrov stated, adding that Western arms supplies enable Ukrainian attacks on civilian infrastructure.
He concluded by dismissing Western aspirations for a strategic defeat of Russia, asserting that such goals will ultimately lead proponents of the conflict into a strategic deadlock.
