Annual STNK Validation Versus Five-Year Renewal

The annual STNK validation is a straightforward process completed every year. During this check, vehicle owners pay the Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) and the Road Traffic Accident Compulsory Fund (SWDKLLJ). Once paid, the STNK receives validation for another year without requiring physical document replacement or a vehicle inspection, provided ownership data remains unchanged.

In contrast, the five-year STNK renewal requires owners to visit a Samsat office in person alongside their vehicles. According to Traffic Police Regulation No. 7 of 2021 regarding Motor Vehicle Registration and Identification, this mandatory physical inspection evaluates vehicle safety, roadworthiness, and identity matching.

What Vehicle Inspections Entail During Five-Year Renewals

The physical inspection checks a specific set of components and safety features. Inspectors evaluate the bodywork or superstructure design against the vehicle’s intended use, alongside lights, rearview mirrors, tire conditions, and dimensions including height, width, and length.

For vehicles other than motorcycles, inspectors also check control panels, seat belts, and safety triangles. The physical examination verifies that the vehicle’s actual frame and engine numbers match the documentation provided.

Why Five-Year Renewals Cannot Be Completed Online

Because the five-year renewal involves physical vehicle examinations and the printing of new documents and license plates, it cannot be completed online. The physical presence of both the vehicle and the owner is required at the registered Samsat office to complete data verification and validation.
