PWHL San Jose has signed all but one of its draft picks, bringing the roster to 18 players of a possible 23 active players ahead of training camp opening on Nov. 18. The flurry of signings is anchored by first-round selection Laila Edwards and includes the addition of collegiate goaltender Tia Chan on a three-year contract.
Goaltender Tia Chan Signs Three-Year Deal
Tia Chan joins San Jose’s crease after securing the 2025-26 Women’s College Hockey Goalie of the Year Award with the University of Connecticut. During a five-year collegiate career, Chan established program records with 70 wins, 25 shutouts, and a .946 save percentage, capping her final season with a .951 save percentage. Chan’s three-year agreement adds depth to a goaltending group that already includes Corinne Schroeder and Abbey Levy.

Forward Additions Secure Draft Class Depth
Sloane Matthews, selected in the second round, also inked a three-year contract with the franchise. The right-handed forward arrives following a four-year tenure at Ohio State, where she contributed 48 goals and 56 assists across 161 games and captured a national championship in 2024. Fourth-round pick Lily Shannon and fifth-round pick McKenna Van Gelder each agreed to two-year deals. Shannon served as captain during her senior year at Northeastern, totaling 92 points in 144 games. Van Gelder collected 86 points in 134 games at Cornell and earned a gold medal representing Team Canada at the 2022 IIHF U-18 Women’s World Championship.
Training Camp and Expansion Team Preparations
With 18 players now under contract out of a possible 23 active roster spots, the club prepares for training camp to commence on Nov. 18. Season tickets are currently available for purchase. While the league has not yet disclosed official names for its four expansion teams, officials announced that an All-Star event will take place on March 7 in Toronto, featuring a round-robin format across four 10-player squads representing PWHL Canada, PWHL International, PWHL USA, and PWHL Rookies.
