Visitors packed the area between the Burgtor and the Hofburg to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Austria’s national sports festival, Tag des Sports, featuring roughly 80 interactive stations and more than 500 current and former athletes. Vice-Chancellor and Sport Minister Andreas Babler alongside Sport State Secretary Michaela Schmidt officially opened the anniversary edition at 10 a.m., drawing immediate crowds to the central square between the Burgtor and the Hofburg.
The event offered attendees direct access to lesser-known disciplines alongside mainstream sports, aiming to spark new athletic passions across generations. State Secretary Michaela Schmidt emphasized the core mission of the milestone event during the morning launch.
Sport Minister Andreas Babler highlighted the unique community aspect of the gathering while reflecting on his own athletic background on the courts. Participants walked the festival grounds to test equipment, watch live demonstrations, and meet prominent figures from Austrian athletics.
