The Directorate General of Corrections in Indonesia has launched formal examinations of multiple inmates at Class IIA Cibinong Penitentiary, including prisoner Ferdy Sambo. The inspections follow an unannounced site visit and subsequent findings by the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia concerning prison conditions and housing arrangements at the facility.
Scope of the Directorate General of Corrections Inspections at Cibinong
During a hearing with House of Representatives Commission XIII on Sept. 28, 2026, Acting Director General of Corrections Mashudi outlined the scope of the internal review. He stated that the Directorate of Security and Intelligence and the Directorate of Internal Compliance and Discipline examined 21 inmates participating in assimilation programs at the Sarana Asimilasi dan Edukasi, 33 inmates convicted of corruption offenses, and one general criminal inmate named Ferdy Sambo. According to Mashudi, the agency established a specialized investigation team under order number PAS-SA.04.01-3418 following a joint site visit on Sept. 25, 2026, alongside Minister of Immigration and Corrections Agus Andrianto.
Suspension of Cibinong Penitentiary Leadership Officials
In tandem with the inmate examinations, the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections took swift disciplinary action against the leadership of the correctional facility. Ministry Inspector General Rudi Setiawan announced the immediate deactivation of five structural officials at Class IIA Cibinong Penitentiary during an on-site inspection on Sept. 26, 2026. The suspended personnel include the penitentiary head, the head of prison security, the head of the coaching and education section, the head of security and order, and the head of general affairs who oversees state property. Setiawan stated that these officials were temporarily relieved of their duties to undergo rigorous internal examination regarding the vulnerabilities flagged by the Ombudsman.
West Java Corrections Office Denies Luxury Cluster Occupancy
Addressing specific allegations regarding unauthorized accommodations, West Java Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections Head Yudi Suseno clarified that no inmates occupy the residential housing units within the Cibinong complex. Suseno stated on Sept. 24, 2026, that the structures in question comprise official staff housing and workspace facilities for agricultural workers, asserting that records show no inmates, including Sambo, reside in upgraded quarters. Investigators continue to review facility logs and oversee ongoing inquiries to address any substantiated regulatory breaches.
