Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran is fully prepared for a renewed military conflict with the United States, including a potential apocalyptic scenario, while maintaining that a diplomatic path remains open if President Donald Trump chooses to take it. Speaking in a television interview on September 27, 2026, Araghchi outlined Iran’s dual posture of military readiness and willingness to negotiate.
Nuclear Enrichment and Diplomatic Frameworks
Addressing Iran’s nuclear activities, Abbas Araghchi asserted that the country’s 60% uranium enrichment program serves entirely peaceful purposes and strictly complies with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). According to Araghchi, this enrichment level remains a legitimate activity that violates no current international legal frameworks. Tehran previously proposed agreements regarding 60% enriched uranium material in both 2025 and 2026, and Araghchi confirmed that Iran would consider reopening these discussions if the United States demonstrates genuine peaceful intent.
As part of these diplomatic efforts, Tehran recently introduced a proposed seven-day agreement plan. This framework is designed to build mutual trust between the two sides before attempting to tackle more complex nuclear disputes.
Military Preparedness and Command Unity
On the defense front, Araghchi rejected claims from Washington suggesting that Tehran’s government suffers from fragmented or dispersed centers of power. He maintained that every diplomatic and military decision in Iran stems from a unified national consensus operating under the direct guidance of the Supreme Leader. The foreign minister emphasized that the entire nation shares a single defensive front to counter U.S. sanctions and military actions.
“We are fully prepared for the resumption of war,” Araghchi said during the TASS interview, adding that the country stands firm against new aggression “even if it leads to an apocalyptic war.” At the same time, he reiterated that the decision rests with Washington, stating, “The choice is up to President Trump.”
