UMBC sophomore guard Heidi Williams has been named to the America East Preseason All-Conference Team. The Prince George’s County, Maryland native earned the recognition following a breakout freshman season where she started 20 of her 32 appearances for the Retrievers.
Record-Setting Rookie Production
Williams’ selection follows a debut year defined by significant individual accolades. She was named to the America East All-Rookie Team and secured the conference’s Rookie of the Week honor six times—a total that tied the program record previously set by Sara Tarbert.
Her impact was immediate. Williams averaged 9.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game. She reached double figures in 15 separate contests, highlighted by a career-high 22-point performance against UMass Lowell on January 24. She also recorded three double-doubles throughout the year, with performances against Notre Dame (Md.) and two against UAlbany.
Climbing the UMBC Rankings
By the conclusion of her freshman year, Williams had secured her place in the UMBC record books. She tallied the seventh-most points, fourth-most steals, and seventh-most field goals ever recorded by a UMBC freshman.
Her efficiency sharpened during league play. According to data provided by the America East conference, Williams averaged 11.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, serving as a central figure in the Retrievers’ 10-6 league record.

The Retrievers are scheduled to open their 2026-27 season on November 2 against Stevenson. Williams enters the year as a focal point of the roster, drawing on a foundation of 32 games of collegiate experience. This preseason All-Conference selection formally acknowledges her status as one of the league’s top returning players heading into the upcoming schedule.
