National bestselling author Katherine Reay will visit the Rowan Public Library’s Headquarters branch in Salisbury on Friday, Oct. 9, to discuss her latest historical fiction novel, “The Undercover Bookshop.”
A Post-War English Village Shrouded in Suspicion
The novel hits shelves on Oct. 6, marking a continuation of Reay’s recent focus on historical fiction. Set in the Cotswold village of Great Rollright, England, in 1950, the story follows amateur sleuth Gemma Brown. The plot centers on Brown’s suspicions that the local baker, Ursula, may be a Soviet spy.
Reay, who has authored 12 novels and one work of non-fiction, noted that the post-World War II setting provided a compelling backdrop for her narrative.
“I feel as though England’s recovery days post-WWII — this novel takes place five years after the war’s end — read as a time of change and questions, much like our world and time right now,” Reay said.
