Tom Brady’s biographer Lars Anderson is pushing back against the long-standing public narrative surrounding the former NFL quarterback’s 2006 separation from actress Bridget Moynahan, calling the timeline of events widely accepted by the public “fiction.” In his new book, Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness, released on September 29, Anderson examines the exact sequence of the split and the subsequent romance with supermodel Gisele Bündchen.
The 2006 Timeline and Conception Dates
Brady, now 49, and Moynahan, 55, parted ways in December 2006 after nearly three years of dating. According to details from the book published by Page Six and reported by Us Weekly, public criticism at the time targeted Brady for seemingly leaving a pregnant partner to pursue a high-profile relationship with Bündchen. Anderson argues that this public perception is incorrect.
Anderson writes that Brady went on his first date with Bündchen in December 2006. To check the math on the pregnancy, the author consulted a certified obstetrics nurse. Based on an infant being born at 40 weeks, the nurse estimated that Moynahan’s date of conception occurred around late November 2006—at least two weeks before Brady’s initial date with the Brazilian supermodel. Moynahan gave birth to their son, Jack Moynahan, in August 2007.
The Pregnancy Announcement in Paris
Moynahan was left heartbroken by the holiday season split in late 2006. Two months into Brady’s relationship with Bündchen, the quarterback received a phone call from the Coyote Ugly actress while vacationing in Paris with the model. Moynahan informed him that she was three months pregnant, a development Anderson describes as a global media firestorm that thrust a private dilemma into the public eye.
