Domestic Violence Shelter and Services, Inc. is launching a series of community events throughout October to mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Wilmington, North Carolina, featuring a silent witness exhibit, a faith leaders summit, and a public march.
Silent Witness Exhibit at Innis Park
The awareness month opens with a Silent Witness Exhibit on Oct. 2 at 12:30 p.m. at Innis Park. The ceremony displays life-size silhouettes that represent North Carolina residents who died from domestic violence. Organizers read their stories aloud during the event, which also honors finalists for the organization’s IMPACT award.
Faith Leaders Summit on Domestic Violence
Local clergy members, pastors, church leaders, and ministry staff are invited to attend a specialized summit on Oct. 12. The gathering focuses on equipping faith communities to identify domestic abuse, support victims, and connect congregants with local resources.
Plates with Purpose Fundraiser at Riko’s Pizza
Community members can support the shelter by purchasing food during a fundraiser on Oct. 16. Riko’s Pizza of Carolina Beach will host the event from 5 to 7 p.m., offering customers two pizzas for $20. The restaurant will donate 10% of the sales from the event directly to Domestic Violence Shelter and Services, Inc.
Take Back the Night Rally and March
The 36th annual Take Back the Night event closes out the month on Oct. 29 at Plaza on Princess in downtown Wilmington. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with a march along Princess and Third streets, followed by a community rally.
The rally features North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson as the keynote speaker. The program also includes live performances, survivor art projects, and the announcement of the 2026 IMPACT Award winner.
