Cosmax has developed an artificial intelligence-powered predictive model for alopecia areata, analyzing approximately 22 million health screening records from South Korea and Japan. The South Korean cosmetics original design manufacturer filed a patent for the non-invasive screening tool, which evaluates 33 physiological, medical, demographic, and socioeconomic variables without requiring biological samples.
AI-Powered Alopecia Prediction and Custom Hair Care Integration
The newly patented algorithm assesses metrics such as blood pressure and liver enzyme levels alongside patient demographics to estimate individual alopecia risks. Cosmax has integrated this technology into its customized beauty platform, BYNIQ. Based on the predicted risk levels, the platform recommends specific functional cosmetic ingredients, such as SOYACT or GANOXYL. This computational screening approach forms part of a broader expansion into specialized scalp care research, targeting personalized formulations driven by data analytics.
Global Scalp Lipid Research and International Partnerships
Beyond predictive software, Cosmax completed a cross-continental scalp study examining scalp lipid profiles across 387 participants of East Asian, European, and African descent. Researchers categorized scalps into three distinct types, identifying shared lipid characteristics linked to hair loss alongside region-specific structural patterns. These findings support the planned development of ethnicity-specific biomarker panels and targeted hair treatments. In July, Cosmax established a joint venture named TRYNEX in Japan with local beauty distributor Fujishin, combining its AI formulation technology with regional distribution networks.
Proprietary Materials and Surge in Hair Care Sales
This material reached the finalist stage in the hair care formulation category at the Cosmoprof Bologna Cosmopack Awards. A separate study investigating stress-induced graying mechanisms using human hair follicle organoids earned Cosmax a main prize at the 2025 International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC) congress, marking a first for a domestic beauty company.
Commercial momentum mirrors these scientific developments. Cosmax reported that its hair care division sales increased by approximately 65% in the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2024. Over the past three years, the company has filed 37 patents within the hair care sector. Building on these filings and a previous partnership with functional ingredient enterprise Science Co. targeting the global curly hair market, Cosmax intends to continue deploying data-driven solutions across international markets.
