San Luis Potosí State Congress President Luis Fernando Gómez Macías confirmed that authorities have signed an agreement to dock the pay of four lawmakers who missed Monday’s legislative session, while also acknowledging that multiple representatives are currently campaigning.
Pay Deductions Implemented for Absent Lawmakers
The State Congress took direct financial action following absences at the legislative session held last Monday. According to Congress President Luis Fernando Gómez Macías, the administrative framework is now in place to penalize the four missing deputies by reducing their legislative salary, known locally as a dieta.
“It seems to me that it is the correct thing to do, it seems to me that it is what the citizenry expects, that if a legislator does not come to work, then at least like in any job they are docked,” Gómez Macías stated regarding the disciplinary measure. He emphasized that the decision aligns with institutional obligations rather than internal political maneuvers.
Political Campaigns and Legislative Congruence
Addressing rumors and observations regarding active political campaigning among current members, Gómez Macías noted that while he has not heard direct cases of deputies self-promoting for a new cargo, expectations of professional integrity remain high. He asserted that representatives with aspirations should formally step down from their current legislative duties.
"Acuérdate que el mayor valor que tienen los políticos es su congruencia y si faltamos al respeto a nuestra propia palabra pues me parece que da mucho de qué decir y sobre todo perdemos la confianza de la ciudadanía," Gómez Macías said, emphasizing that maintaining public trust requires strict alignment between political behavior and institutional responsibility.
