Her family released a statement remembering her as “the most wonderful mother” and a “cherished grandmother,” while public figures, entertainers, and colleagues shared tributes across social media following her death.

Tributes From the Entertainment Industry

Singer and actress Elaine Paige led the initial wave of public remembrances. Paige shared an archival photograph of herself alongside Rantzen on Instagram, writing that she was “so very sad to hear of the death of Esther Rantzen” and describing her as “a great broadcaster, journalist and campaigner.” Paige highlighted Rantzen’s lasting welfare legacy, noting that Childline provided confidential counseling for distressed young people while The Silver Line targeted loneliness and isolation among older adults.

Scottish television presenter Lorraine Kelly joined in honoring the late broadcaster, leaving a comment on an announcement post that characterized Rantzen as “a pioneer and a force of nature” who remained “funny, forthright and fabulous” while helping numerous people throughout her career.

Rantzen became a household name across the United Kingdom as the host of the long-running BBC consumer and investigative show That’s Life! Beyond her broadcasting career, she established major support networks that transformed public welfare services.

TV presenter Anna Williamson detailed how Rantzen’s advocacy directly shaped her own career path. In a lengthy Instagram tribute, Williamson called Rantzen “somebody truly iconic” and an “inspiration,” explaining that she became a spokeswoman, ambassador, and counselor for Childline after meeting its founder. Williamson described Rantzen as “a true fighter, a true pioneer, and a genuinely incredible person.”

Following a diagnosis of stage four lung cancer in 2023, Rantzen also utilized her public platform to campaign for the legalization of assisted dying in England and Wales, remaining vocal on the issue until the end of her life.
