Garín Voluntary Firefighters Mark Golden Jubilee With 5K Community Marathon

The Garin Voluntary Firefighters mark their 50th institutional anniversary with a community event after five decades of local emergency service, eldiariodeescobar.com.ar reported. Founded formally on October 1, 1976, the corps formed to meet the rapid demographic growth of the city and the urgent need for local emergency response.

The entity’s creation stemmed from a collective neighborhood effort driven by parish priest Pedro Alberto Perna, a women’s committee led by Eva for the building’s construction, and historical figures like Eugenio “Totocho” Bozzano, with Félix Simón Lima serving as the first board president. In the early days, San Fernando and Escobar volunteer departments provided supplemental coverage, while local residents raised funds to adapt an old sodería vehicle nicknamed “El Volvito” as their first rescue truck.
