Malta Asset Management Forum Marks Decade of Sector Growth

Malta’s financial services sector contributed around €1.3 billion to Malta’s economy in gross value added in 2025, accounting for 7.3% of the country’s total. By December of that year, it employed around 6.2% of Malta’s workforce. This economic expansion coincides with the tenth anniversary of the Malta Asset Management Forum, an annual gathering that brings together regulators, practitioners, and service providers to shape domestic financial policy.

Originally launched ten years ago as a meeting of Malta’s asset managers, regulators, and service providers hosted by Deloitte Malta, Ganado Advocates, and Alter Domus, the forum has evolved into a leading forum for industry leaders and a catalyst for regulatory innovation, sectoral collaboration, and thought leadership. Over the past decade, Malta’s total assets under management have more than doubled. Deloitte Malta Partner Michael Bianchi remarked that the gathering has successfully fostered a network for local practitioners and incoming asset managers seeking to establish operations in Malta as their entry point to Europe.

Regulatory Proactivity Drives Jurisdiction Appeal

The jurisdiction’s growth relies on a favourable fiscal regime combined with the proactive approach of the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA). The forum has been the place where regulatory foresight was translated into market reality, addressing challenges like digital security, sustainability reporting, digital versions of assets, and emerging cryptocurrency investment types. Ganado Advocates Partner André Zerafa pointed out that the forum has served as a vital channel for legal and regulatory conversations that bolster Malta’s competitive standing.

With the industry branching out into infrastructure, real estate, and private equity and venture capital, Alter Domus Malta CEO and Head Przemyslaw Koger noted that an ongoing emphasis on operational resilience and best practices has helped cement Malta’s stature as a reliable asset management destination.

The 10th Anniversary Event at the Phoenicia Hotel

Building on a decade of institutional knowledge, the upcoming milestone event will expand its focus to specialized investment strategies. The 10th Malta Asset Management Forum is scheduled for October 29, 2026, at the Phoenicia Hotel. Program sessions will examine private equity and venture capital, real estate fund investing, and digital assets and crypto funds.

Additional industry experts contributing to the 2026 agenda include Marina Grech, a Partner within Ganado Advocates’ Investment Services & Funds practice; Gavin Ryan, author of the 2026 PEVCA Malta Private Equity State of Play Report; Albert Alsina, founder of Mediterrania Capital Partners Ltd; and Mark Watkinson, a portfolio non-executive director. These specialists will lead discussions addressing digital security, tokenisation, and regulatory convergence as the sector enters its next phase.
