‘A Different World’ Sequel Gains Momentum with Return of Dawnn Lewis, Glynn Turman, and Tichina Arnold
Netflix is expanding the cast of its highly anticipated reboot of A Different World, welcoming back original stars Dawnn Lewis and Glynn Turman, alongside modern addition Tichina Arnold. The sequel series aims to recapture the spirit of the original while introducing a fresh generation of Hillman College students.
Dawnn Lewis will reprise her iconic role as Jaleesa Vinson-Taylor, while Glynn Turman returns as Col. Bradford Taylor. Joining them is Tichina Arnold, who will portray Darlene Duvall. The cast also includes Joshua Suiter as Andre and Raven Goodwin as Dr. Brooklyn Boyer.
The series centers around Deborah, the daughter of Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert, played by Maleah Joi Moon, as she navigates her freshman year at Hillman. She strives to forge her own identity while living in the shadow of her parents’ legacy.
Several other original cast members are set to return, including Kadeem Hardison, Jasmine Guy, Darryl M. Bell, Cree Summer, and Charnele Brown. The new ensemble also features Alijah Kai Haggins, Cornell Young, Jordan Aaron Hall, and Chibuikem Uche.
Felicia Pride serves as showrunner, with Debbie Allen returning to direct and executive produce. Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Rock Bythewood are also executive producers on the project. Gina Prince-Bythewood’s involvement highlights the series’ commitment to honoring its legacy.
The 10-episode single-camera series is currently in production in Atlanta and is slated to reintroduce Hillman College to both longtime fans and a new audience. Deadline first reported the casting news on March 26, 2026.
