Multiple Injuries Reported in A27 Collision Near Nieuwendijk
A serious traffic accident on the A27 highway near Nieuwendijk, Netherlands, on Saturday evening resulted in multiple injuries and significant damage to four vehicles. The incident, which occurred around 10:30 PM, caused extensive disruption to traffic in both directions.
What Happened?
According to reports, a car traveling from Raamsdonkveer towards Gorinchem lost control and collided with the guardrail. The impact was severe, causing the vehicle to spin and eject its engine block onto the opposing lane of the highway. Two oncoming motorists were unable to avoid hitting the detached engine block, sustaining considerable damage to their vehicles. Debris from the initial crash also damaged a third car on the roadway.
Injuries and Response
Despite the severity of the crash, none of the individuals involved required hospitalization, with reports indicating only minor injuries. Emergency services responded to the scene and closed the A27 in both directions to facilitate the removal of the wreckage and ensure the safety of other motorists. A total of four vehicles, including the initially crashed car, needed to be towed from the scene.
Traffic Disruption
Rijkswaterstaat, the Dutch highway authority, worked to clear the debris and reopen the A27. The highway was closed in both directions, impacting traffic flow towards both Gorinchem and Raamsdonkveer.
