Åberg Maintains Three-Shot Lead at The Players Championship Heading into Final Round

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Ludvig Åberg remains in a commanding position at The Players Championship, carrying a three-shot lead into Sunday’s final round at TPC Sawgrass. Despite a slightly less spectacular performance on Saturday, carding a 1-under 71, Åberg sits at 13-under 203 and is poised for a potential breakthrough victory.

Chasing the Leader

Michael Thorbjornsen, Åberg’s friend and fellow competitor, is three strokes behind at 10-under, presenting the most immediate challenge. A group of seasoned players remain within striking distance, including Cameron Young, Justin Thomas, Xander Schauffele, Viktor Hovland, Matt Fitzpatrick, Brian Harman, and Corey Conners, all within five shots of the lead.

Saturday’s Round – A Test of Satisfaction

Åberg’s third round wasn’t without its challenges. After a strong start to the week, including a second-round 63, he faced difficulty capitalizing on opportunities on the back nine. He had bogeys on the 16th and 18th holes, despite earlier making his third eagle of the week on the par-5 11th with an 18-foot putt.

“Definitely would have loved to come out of 16 and 17 with at least one birdie, and then obviously the three-putt on 18 kind of stings, annoys me a little bit,” Åberg said. “But I started the day with a two-shot lead and ended with a three, so that’s a positive.”

The Challenge of TPC Sawgrass

The TPC Sawgrass course continues to prove its difficulty, even for the tournament leader. Åberg acknowledged the need for precise execution, stating, “It’s all about executing. You’re going to get punished if you don’t, which is a fun way to play golf.”

Final Round Tee Times

The final round promises excitement as Åberg aims to secure his third PGA Tour title. Tee times and pairings for Sunday’s round are available here. A complete Players Championship TV schedule and viewer’s guide can also be found on the PGA Tour website.

Looking Ahead

With a strong field still in contention, the final round is expected to be a thrilling finish. Golf fans can anticipate a competitive battle as players vie for the coveted title and the largest prize of the year at TPC Sawgrass.
