The police set up several checkpoints around the crime scene after the murder on Sunday evening.

Here, the man now accused was stopped.

– The accused was in one of the cars that was stopped at the checkpoints the police set up around the crime scene, says police attorney Inger Lise Høyland to NRK.

The man in his 20s was found outside his home in Arna on Sunday evening. The police, who responded to a violent incident, were on the scene after 18 minutes.

Høyland says that the police have investigated both the home and the car of the accused. In addition to the other place accused have been after the criminal act.

– It is very relevant to examine the means of transport used by the accused immediately after a violent act. There may, for example, be traces of the victim in the car, explains Høyland.

It is a black Toyota Verso 2010 model.

They urge motorists who have built-in camera systems that film automatically to check their cars.

The police will not say what they believe to be the motive for the murder.

– We are investigating this. We question the accused, and check it against other information in the case, says Høyland.

Høyland does not want to say whether it is a murder weapon, what it is, if any, and whether it has been seized.

Not even if the murder seems planned, or if it happened out of passion.

The police have received a preliminary autopsy report, but are withholding what they believe to be the cause of death.

The police are working to map the relationship between the two men. They knew each other and were in the same social circle. They both came to Norway from Afghanistan in 2021.

The deceased is said to have been part of the Afghan special force CRU222, which worked to fight terrorism together with Norwegian special forces in Afghanistan.

– History between them is a topic in the case, confirms Høyland.

Denies criminal liability

The police were without a perpetrator for over three days before the man in his 30s was charged and arrested on Wednesday evening. It happened at the police station in Bergen.

– He came in to read through a previous interrogation. After this he was arrested, says Høyland to NRK.

The man in his 30s has been remanded in custody for four weeks with letters and visitscontrolbut denies criminal guilt for the murder.

The prosecution asked for imprisonment for four weeks with full isolation and with letters and visitsprohibition. So they didn’t get that.

The District Court found no basis for imprisonment with isolation and a ban on the media and broadcasting.

The police are therefore very careful about making statements, because the accused can read what is written about the case in the media.
