Vietnamese actress Thanh Trúc announced during an August 3 livestream that she will step away from acting for the next three to four years to focus on expanding her family.
Health Challenges and Career Hiatus
According to Thanh Trúc, she was diagnosed with hypothyroidism following the birth of her first child. The condition caused significant metabolic disruptions, weight fluctuations, extreme fatigue, hair loss, and noticeable swelling around her neck and face that impacted her on-camera appearances. Addressing viewers who asked when she would return to scripted projects, the actress stated that she intends to prioritize her family and second-child plans, keeping her off television and film sets for up to four years.
Weight Fluctuations and Public Scrutiny
The actress detailed the physical toll of managing her thyroid condition alongside public criticism regarding her weight. She shared that intense dieting after receiving negative comments about her physique caused her weight to drop rapidly to 55 kilograms, leaving her looking emaciated. After receiving reprimands from singer Chau Khai Phong regarding her extreme weight loss, she adjusted her routine and gained five kilograms back over a two-month period. She noted that her body’s tendency to gain weight quickly is a direct symptom of her hypothyroidism.
Addressing Rumors and Personal Life
During the broadcast, Thanh Trúc also addressed ongoing rumors concerning cosmetic procedures. She clarified that she has not undergone any facial plastic surgery, with the exception of receiving dental veneers. She attributed visible signs of aging and dark circles under her eyes to her heavy workload and late-night livestreaming schedule.
