Adam Corcoran Sentenced to Life for Murder of Daena Walsh in Midleton, Ireland

Adam Corcoran, 31, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his partner, Daena Walsh, 27, in Midleton, County Cork, Ireland. The sentence was handed down by Ms Justice Siobhan Lankford at the Central Criminal Court on Wednesday, March 19, 2026, following an eight-day trial.

Details of the Crime and Trial

Corcoran had pleaded not guilty to both the murder of Ms. Walsh at their apartment in John Barry House, Connolly Street, on August 2, 2024, and a charge of arson at the same location. However, a jury of eight men and four women unanimously found him guilty on both counts Irish Post.

The court heard that Ms. Walsh was discovered with 25 stab and slash wounds and a partially amputated left arm in the burning apartment. Corcoran initially claimed Ms. Walsh had taken her own life, but later admitted to killing her during cross-examination, stating he had no recollection of the event Irish Times.

He also denied intentionally starting the fire, alleging he did not set the aerosol cans on the cooker.

Family’s Statement and Impact

Following the verdict, Ms. Walsh’s brother, Callum, delivered a victim impact statement, describing Corcoran’s actions as “cruel, savage, and evil.” He emphasized the devastating loss to the family and the profound impact on Ms. Walsh’s two young sons, Ezra and Kyson Irish Post.

“She should be here today raising her two children. Instead, as of the brutal and deliberate actions of Adam Corcoran, they have been left without their mother for the rest of their lives,” Callum Walsh stated. He added that the family was relieved with the outcome of the sentencing.

Sentencing and Judge’s Remarks

Ms Justice Lankford described Corcoran’s actions as “truly horrific,” noting the frenzied nature of the attack and Ms. Walsh’s desperate fight for her life. In addition to the life sentence for murder, Corcoran received a concurrent 15-year sentence for the arson charge, which endangered the lives of residents, first responders, and Gardaí Irish Post.

The judge acknowledged Corcoran’s acceptance of the jury’s verdicts and his expression of regret, remorse, and sorrow for causing Ms. Walsh’s death, as conveyed through his defense counsel, Brendan Grehan SC.

Daena Walsh, originally from Roundwood, County Wicklow, was laid to rest in her hometown in August 2024. She is survived by her sons, her mother Caroline, and her brothers Paul, Robbie, Callum, and Noah Irish Post.
