AfCFTA Digital Innovation Challenge 2026: Open Call for Entrepreneurs

The African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat has launched the second edition of the AfCFTA Digital Innovation Challenge. The program aims to identify, nurture, and showcase digital solutions developed by women and young entrepreneurs that support the implementation of the AfCFTA Protocol on Digital Trade and the Protocol on Women and Youth in Trade.

Program Objectives for Intra-African Trade

The initiative builds on the success of its inaugural edition, which demonstrated how targeted programs can cultivate a new generation of African innovators. According to the AfCFTA Secretariat, these digital solutions contribute directly to strengthening intra-African trade and realizing a seamless, inclusive, and integrated African Digital Market.

For example, Nigerian Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy Dr. Bosun Tijani noted at an Abuja workshop that innovation hubs, co-working spaces, and grassroots communities provide essential mentorship, resources, and networks to transform ideas into viable businesses.

Ecosystem Standards and Economic Diversification

The Nigenology Development Agency (NITDA) in Nigeria is currently working to establish common standards for innovation hubs, according to NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa. Inuwa stated that the proposed National Innovation Hub Standards Framework will provide hubs with a structured pathway to assess capabilities, identify gaps, and improve maturity levels.
