Seven months after the record petition calling for the repeal of the law aimed at “remove constraints on practicing farming”known as the “Duplomb” law, which had collected in a few weeks more than 2.1 million signatures during the summer of 2025, this text returns to the hemicycle of the Palais-Bourbon, Wednesday February 11, for a symbolic but highly anticipated debate.
Submitted on July 10 on the National Assembly website by a 23-year-old student, two days after the final adoption of the law, the petition quickly reached records. For the first time, such an initiative exceeded the threshold of 500,000 signatures, opening the way to the possibility of a debate before the national representation.
The Duplomb law had been at the heart of lively debates throughout its examination. The version voted on by Parliament notably provided for the reintroduction under certain conditions of three banned pesticides from the neonicotinoid family, as well as facilitations for expanding livestock farms and building water storage facilities. On August 7, 2025, the Constitutional Council censored the reintroduction of neonicotinoids in the name of the right to live in a healthy environment, judging the provision insufficiently regulated.
