Boyé Scores Brace as Alavés Draws with Girona in La Liga

VITORIA-GASTEIZ, Spain (AP) — Lucas Boyé scored twice for Alavés to secure a 2-2 draw against Girona in a lively La Liga match at Estadio Mendizorroza on Monday. The result leaves Alavés with a three-point advantage over the relegation zone.

Match Highlights

Alavés took an early lead in the 5th minute when a misplay by Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga on a cross from Yusi allowed Boyé to score from close range. Girona responded with Vladyslav Vanat leveling the score in the 76th minute, following a header from Axel Witsel. Girona then took the lead in the 73rd minute through Viktor Tsygankov, who calmly rounded the goalkeeper after a well-placed pass from Azzedine Ounahi.

Late Equalizer

However, Boyé secured a crucial point for Alavés with a header in the 89th minute. This draw could prove vital in their fight to avoid relegation.

Standings Implications

The draw positions Alavés three points clear of the relegation zone. Girona remains three places and three points ahead of Alavés, though only six points separate them from Mallorca, who currently occupy the last of the relegation spots.

Boyé’s Perspective

“We’re at home, and we realize that to reach our objective as quickly as possible we have to pick up three points here, especially against direct rivals,” Boyé said. “We’re frustrated by the draw and by not getting all three points.”
