Brazilian international futsal player Alex Felipe,a European champion with Sporting CP in 2019,tragically passed away on Tuesday at the age of 32. The incident occurred at Ukhta Airport in Russia, where he collapsed while preparing too board a flight with his club, Norilsk Nickel. Despite immediate resuscitation attempts, he could not be revived .
A Promising Career Cut Short
Sporting CP, the club where Felipe played from 2018 to 2020, expressed deep sorrow over his sudden death. “Sporting expresses its deep regret at the death of Alex, former futsal player for the Lions, who passed away suddenly at the age of 32,” the club stated on its official website .
Reports indicate that Alex Felipe lost consciousness at the airport and efforts to resuscitate him with a defibrillator were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Achievements and Legacy
Prior to his passing,Felipe had recently played in a Russian Cup semi-final match,where Norilsk Nickel drew 2-2 against Ukhta. He joined Norilsk nickel in 2020 after a accomplished two-year stint with Sporting CP.
During his time with Sporting, he was instrumental in the club’s success, winning two Portuguese Cups, a Super Cup, and the prestigious Champions League title in 2019. In 67 appearances for Sporting, he scored an remarkable 35 goals.
