Skechers to Open First Manufacturing Facility in algeria Outside of Asia
Algiers, Algeria – American sports and lifestyle footwear brand skechers will establish its first manufacturing facility outside of Asia, located in Bab Ali, west of Algiers, Algeria. The declaration was made by Tradifoot, Skechers’ exclusive distributor in Algeria, during a recent industry event.
The new factory will span 22,000 square meters and boast an annual production capacity of two million units, according to Oualid Ben Ahmed, the representative of Skechers in Algeria, in a statement to Algerian Television. “[After negotiations with Skechers,] we will launch in Algeria the first factory of this brand outside of Asia and the first in the Mena region,” Ben Ahmed stated.
Details regarding the investment amount, project completion timeline, and the extent of Skechers’ direct involvement remain undisclosed.
This move aligns with a growing trend of international brands establishing manufacturing operations within Algeria. decathlon, Lacoste, and Zara already produce a portion of their goods in the country, with some products being exported internationally.
The influx of thes brands is largely driven by new local manufacturing requirements imposed by the Algerian government, designed to encourage domestic production and facilitate continued sales within the country.
