Sheriff: Basset Hound Shot and Killed in Texas Backyard

A 4-year-old basset hound named Sheriff was shot and killed in his fenced backyard in Alvarado, Texas, on February 25. The Alvarado Police Department is investigating the shooting, which occurred in the Stonegate Manor neighborhood between 11 a.m. And 4:45 p.m.

Details of the Shooting

According to police and the dog’s family, Sheriff was shot three times. He was transported to a nearby animal hospital but died en route. The family reported the wounds were located near the dog’s rib cage and spine. Another dog was present in the yard at the time of the shooting but was not physically injured, though the family states the animal is traumatized.

Investigation and Reward

Investigators are currently working to determine a motive and identify a suspect in the case. The family is offering a $1,500 reward for any information leading to an arrest.
