Understanding Legal Protection Measures in Masseube

Residents of Masseube, France, will have the opportunity to learn about legal protection measures for vulnerable adults at a meeting hosted by France Alzheimer Gers on Wednesday, February 18th, at 2:30 PM at the Café du Foirail. The event, part of the “Memory Café” series, aims to provide clarity and support to families and individuals navigating the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease and related conditions.

What are Legal Protection Measures?

Legal protection measures are designed to safeguard the rights and interests of adults who are unable to manage their own affairs due to illness, disability, or other vulnerabilities. These measures ensure that individuals receive the necessary care and support while protecting them from potential abuse or exploitation.

Who Will Be Presenting?

The session will be led by Virginie Bordes Fourgeaud, a psychologist, alongside volunteers from France Alzheimer Gers, Valérie Charrière and Yolande Serra. Béatrice Boutet, a legal representative, will also be present to explain the various options available.

Types of Legal Protection Measures

Béatrice Boutet will present information on several key measures, including:

  • Legal Protection (Sauvegarde de Justice): A measure designed to provide assistance with specific tasks.
  • Curatorship (Curatelle): A form of guardianship where the individual retains some decision-making power, but with assistance from a curator.
  • Guardianship (Tutelle): A more comprehensive form of guardianship where a guardian makes decisions on behalf of the individual.
  • Family Authorization (Habilitation Familiale): Allows family members to act on behalf of a vulnerable adult in specific situations.
  • Future Protection Mandate (Mandat de Protection Future): Allows individuals to appoint someone to manage their affairs in the event they lose capacity in the future.
