Amazon has announced a redesigned lineup of Kindle e-readers that are thinner and lighter than previous models, accompanied by new accessories including a hands-free Bluetooth page-turner and an upright charging dock, USA TODAY reported. The refreshed hardware arrives as the company builds on strong reader engagement, following a year in which users read more than 720 billion pages on Kindle devices in 2025.
The new hardware refresh updates several models in the Kindle family, introducing colored finishes that wrap around the devices from front to back, including Ube, Alpine Sky, Seaglass Green, Graphite, and Fig. The redesigns remove the raised border that previously hid parts of the reading surface, offering a flush screen across the new e-readers.
Kids Kindle and Standard Kindle Launch with New Pricing
The updated lineup spans four primary devices, beginning with the Kids Kindle. Available starting October 1, the Kids Kindle features a 6-inch glare-free display, a thinner and lighter body, and six weeks of battery life. It starts at $179.99 and comes in Graphite with Bookman, Lakeside Retreat, or Pirate Adventure covers.
The standard 6-inch Kindle also launched on October 1, marketed as a pocket-sized e-reader with up to six weeks of battery life and a 30% faster book opening speed compared to the previous drop. Priced starting at $149.99, it is available in Graphite and Ube, with an optional version featuring an aluminum back.
For readers seeking advanced features, the Kindle Paperwhite opens for preorders on October 1 ahead of an October 28 release date. Starting at $199.99, it is waterproof, thinner and lighter than the previous devices, and includes an adjustable warm light alongside a battery life lasting up to 12 weeks. A Signature Edition of the Paperwhite adds aluminum rear housing, an auto-adjusting front light, pogo pin dock charging, and double tap to turn pages. It is available in Graphite, Seaglass Green, and kid-specific covers including Twilight Towers and Whisker World.
The Kindle Colorsoft introduces paper-like color technology powered by nitride LEDs designed to enhance the color and increase brightness. Also launching with preorders on October 1 and an October 28 release, the Colorsoft starts at $289.99. Its Signature Edition includes aluminum housing, an auto-adjusting front light, double-tap to turn pages, and pogo pin dock charging. Colorsoft options include Graphite and Fig, alongside kid’s covers in Desert Dash and Enchanted Woods.
Accessories and Companion Hardware
Alongside the e-readers, Amazon introduced a series of peripheral devices to support reading habits. The Kindle Click is a $34.99 Bluetooth remote allowing readers to turn pages hands-free while traveling or resting, compatible with all new Kindle devices as well as devices released in 2024 or later.
Magnetic covers equipped with physical page-turn buttons are available for $79.99, designed specifically for the Paperwhite Signature Edition and Colorsoft Signature Edition. A $59.99 charging dock keeps those Signature models upright and powered, while standard full-wrap Kindle covers start at $39.99.
