American Arrested At Changi Airport After Ten-Month Theft Investigation
A 47-year-old American man faces five counts of theft in dwelling after Singapore authorities arrested him during a planned operation on September 25, according to The Straits Times. The arrest ends a multi-visit stealing spree across Changi Airport terminals where the suspect targeted retail outlets for perfume valued at more than $1,400. Police stated that the suspect thought leaving the country would allow him to evade law enforcement, emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance on retail theft.
Arrest Executes Planned Operation at Transit Area
Airport Police Division officers apprehended the suspect on September 25 while he transited through Changi Airport, as reported by AsiaOne. Authorities announced the arrest on October 7, noting that the man is scheduled to appear in court to face five charges of theft in dwelling. Under Singapore law, individuals convicted of this offense can face up to seven years in prison, a fine, or both. The police department reiterated its commitment to working closely with airport stakeholders to detect and prevent retail crimes.
Initial Thefts Target Terminals Two and Three in November 2025
Closed-circuit television footage showed the suspect taking a $331 box of perfume on November 4 at 7:38 PM and leaving without payment. Later that same day, he stole three additional boxes of perfume totaling $646 from two retail outlets in the Terminal 2 transit area. Officers established the man’s identity during these initial inquiries, but he had already departed Singapore before they could detain him.
Return Visit in April 2026 Yields Two More Perfume Boxes
Over that six-minute window, he took a box of perfume valued at $236.90 and another valued at $195.40. Following this second round of thefts, he again left the country before local authorities could intercept him, setting the stage for his eventual arrest five months later.

Court Appearance Scheduled for October
The 47-year-old American will face the State Courts to answer for the stolen goods totaling more than $1,400 across six distinct retail boxes. Police statements highlight that international travel does not shield offenders from prosecution, given ongoing cooperation between airport security divisions and retail operators. Investigators have not yet disclosed the suspect’s final destination flight on the day of his September arrest, nor have they released details regarding his legal representation.
