AMEXME Launches “Lotería con Causa” to Support Women with Lymphedema After Breast Cancer
Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico – February 24, 2026 – The Mexican Association of Business Women (AMEXME) will host a “Lotería con Causa” event on March 6th at the Tomás Garrido Canabal Park to raise funds for “El Carril Rosa,” a program providing support to women suffering from lymphedema following breast cancer treatment.
Supporting Women Through “El Carril Rosa”
The event, scheduled to commence at 4:00 PM in the Gran Salón Villahermosa within the park, aims to expand rehabilitation therapies and increase the number of women benefiting from the program. “Carril Rosa” was established to address the physical and emotional challenges faced by women after completing cancer treatment, specifically focusing on lymphedema.
Lizet Carolina Unda Rosique, director of El Carril Rosa, emphasized the importance of sustained support for these women, stating, “Carril Rosa is sensitivity converted into action and solidarity converted into results. Social causes need structure, resources and the participation of the entire community to be sustained over time.”
Understanding Lymphedema
Lymphedema is characterized by inflammation in the arm, hand, or chest area due to the accumulation of lymphatic fluid. This condition can cause pain, heaviness, limited movement, loss of strength, and negatively impact self-esteem and daily life.
Aquatic Rehabilitation Program
In collaboration with the Centro City Council and with the support of municipal president Yolanda Osuna Huerta, “El Carril Rosa” has implemented an aquatic rehabilitation scheme at the Atasta Recreation Center. This program provides physical therapies in the water to reduce inflammation and improve mobility. The natural pressure exerted by water aids in reducing swelling, allows for pain-free movement, and promotes lymphatic circulation.
For over two years, the program has as well offered orientation sessions, referrals to medical services, connections with specialists, and support for preventative studies, ensuring women do not face the consequences of breast cancer alone.
A Community Event for a Worthy Cause
Maria del Carmen Flores Castillo, president of AMEXME, Villahermosa Chapter, explained that the “Lotería con Causa” will be a family-friendly event centered around the traditional Mexican game of Lotería. Participation in the game will directly contribute to funding rehabilitation, prevention, and support therapies.
Unda Rosique concluded, “Each ticket represents an opportunity for rehabilitation, prevention and support for a woman who needs it. When a woman receives support, a family is strengthened and when a family is strengthened, the entire society is strengthened.”
Organizers are encouraging widespread community, institutional, and media support to promote this solidarity activity.
