This Saturday, 85 athletes with intellectual disabilities from different parts of the province will participate in a petanque match in Calatayud, promoted by Special Olympics Aragón and organized by AMIBIL as host entity.
The event is part of the Provincial Petanque League and brings together participants from Atades, Adispaz, Kairos, Special Olympics and the AMIBIL INCLUSPORT club. The Bilbao Association will have 34 INCLUSPORT athletes who will compete in the Consolation Pavilion on Saturday morning. The event will have the collaboration of more than 30 volunteers and coaches, as well as the local Petanque Club.
Special Olympics Aragón is a non-profit association established in 1991, which promotes the practice of sports among people with intellectual disabilities following the philosophy of Special Olympics International: creating opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in an exchange of skills and camaraderie with their families, other athletes and the community in general.
The AMIBIL INCLUSPORT club maintains a close collaboration with Special Olympics Aragón, supporting the organization of events in Calatayud, participating in external calls and in initiatives such as Calatayud Includes, where motor tests open to people without disabilities are promoted to bring adapted sport closer to the community.
According to Lucrecia Jurado, managing director of AMIBIL, sports practice has been a constant activity since the beginning of the association, since 2002, including disciplines such as swimming, golf, motor tests, basketball, athletics and jiu jitsu.
Saturday’s meeting at the Consolation Pavilion will serve for the competition, but also to bring together athletes, families and volunteers around adapted sports.
