The new Sony WF-1000XM6 headphones once again aim for the absolute top of the class. They add stronger active noise cancellation, LE Audio and Auracast support, and most importantly, a fuller, more musical sound. So Sony is once again fine-tuning the details that decide whether they are just good headphones or the best.

The new Sony WF-1000XM6 True Wireless headphones continue one of the most successful lines of wireless headphones in recent years. The WF-1000XM3, XM4 and XM5 models have always belonged to the absolute top and were practically a certainty in the premium class. Over the years, Sony has built a reputation as a manufacturer that can combine top active noise cancellation, great sound and useful features in one compact package.

The XM6 has an even harder task. The competition is not sleeping, Bose, Technics, Sennheiser or Apple regularly improve their models, and the premium class is really crowded these days and there is no room for just cosmetic changes. And so Sony came up with a new processor for ANC, more microphones, a modified converter and also a different sound tuning. The result is a model that does not act as a minor update, but as a significant evolution.
Design a ergonomie
Sony tweaks the design slightly with each generation, and the XM6 is no exception. The headphones now have a slightly more angular and elongated body, but this is not just a stylistic change. There is more technology inside, a fourth microphone has been added, as well as a ventilation hole to reduce parasitic sounds of footsteps or chewing. Another consequence is that I personally don’t have the feeling of blocked ears with the XM6.
The earpiece itself is approximately 11% thinner than the previous generation, so it feels less tight in the ear. You can tell when you listen for a long time, the headphones do not press as much on the ear and ear canals, overall they look more natural and at the same time fit better in the ear. The weight is around six grams per earpiece, so even after several hours of listening they are pleasant.
