Comedian Andrew Schulz is joining the cast of Universal’s Miami Vice ’85, a film directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler. The project is scheduled for a May 19, 2028, release and will be filmed for Imax, according to reports from Deadline.
Production Details and 1980s Miami Setting
The movie serves as an all-new version of the Miami Vice story, drawing specific inspiration from the pilot episode of the original NBC series that ran from 1984 to 1990. According to Deadline, the plot focuses on the corruption and glamour of mid-1980s Miami. Dan Gilroy wrote the screenplay, which is based on characters created by Anthony Yerkovich, who executive produced the original series with Michael Mann. An earlier draft of the script was written by Eric Warren Singer.
Production is set to begin this year. The film is produced by Joseph Kosinski and Dylan Clark of Dylan Clark Productions. At the studio level, Creative Executive of Production Development Christina Hoffrogge and EVP Production Development Sara Scott are overseeing the project for Universal, Deadline reports.

Andrew Schulz’s Expanding Acting Portfolio
The addition to Miami Vice ’85 follows a period of increased activity for Schulz in scripted media. Deadline and Yahoo note that Schulz has a role in the upcoming live-action Street Fighter adaptation and recently finished production on the Apple sports film Running.
His previous acting credits include the Netflix comedy series Tires, MGM’s Underdoggs with Snoop Dogg, The Thicket featuring Peter Dinklage, and Netflix’s You People with Eddie Murphy and Jonah Hill. He also appeared in White Men Can’t Jump alongside Jack Harlow.
Outside of acting, Schulz recently completed the global Life Tour, which included sellouts at Madison Square Garden, the Kia Forum, and Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, as well as the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. The tour covered more than 70 venues across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia, culminating in the Netflix special Life, filmed at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. He also co-hosts the podcast Flagrant, which has surpassed 1.5 billion YouTube views, and the long-running Brilliant Idiots with Charlamagne Tha God, Deadline reports.
