Previously restricted by a custody agreement with Brad Pitt, Jolie expressed her desire to live abroad, stating, “I am here because I have to stay here because of my divorce…But as soon as they turn 18, I can leave,” to The Hollywood Reporter in 2024.

Jolie is reportedly considering Cambodia, where she adopted her son Maddox in 2002 and maintains a country home, as a potential destination. She also has properties in France and England, offering a range of options. Recent sales of her US properties, including a New York apartment sold last summer and the impending sale of her Los Angeles mansion in Los Feliz (valued at $24.5 million), signal her commitment to this transition.

Jolie’s sentiments echo those of other American stars. She openly criticized the US political climate, stating, “I love my country, but at the moment, I don’t recognize it,” according to Variety. George Clooney recently obtained French nationality and has established a significant presence in France. Eva Longoria has also chosen to spend more time in Mexico, while Lena Dunham and Courtney Love have relocated to the United Kingdom.
